The REAL Flagship Store has everything you need to enhance your visit with a knowledgeable and friendly staff ready to help you with any needs ranging from bikinis and board shorts to the latest kiteboarding, foiling and surfing gear. REAL offers the only Rental Shop in the United States where you can rent the latest Kite, Surf, Foil and Standup gear. As a guest of Watermen’s Retreat, you are eligible for 10% off gear rentals.

PRIVATE KITEBOARDING LAUNCHING AND LANDING

You have access to private kiteboarding launching and landing at REAL Watersports with Bermuda grass, air compressors, lockers, and hot showers. You must stop at the REAL Watersports Lesson Center to register, sign the necessary documents, and receive a yard orientation before launching.

WATERMEN’S BAR & GRILL

Watermen’s Bar & Grill is OPEN March 1st through Thanksgiving weekend 12pm – 8pm, Monday to Saturday.

Peak business is typically from 6pm – 8pm. During these hours there will be a wait for initial service, and they will not be able to service takeout orders over the phone. The first interaction with the Bar & Grill must happen inside. You may have to wait in line once. Once you have established a food order and table, cocktail service will be available.

Supplied upon arrival, you will find:

If you need additional items there are several convenience stores in the surrounding area including Liberty Convenience in Rodanthe, Waves Market & Deli in Waves, Dollar General in Waves, and Food Lion – a full-service grocery store located in Avon, approximately 15 minutes to the south of Watermen’s Retreat.

Housekeeping: We offer a daily housekeeping service. If you would like to schedule a service, please contact the Welcome Desk for availability. Our housekeeping staff will replace all linens and towels, remake all the beds, clean the kitchen, start the dishwasher, and remove the trash. Daily cleans are charged at a rate of $125 + tax.

Lights: If your lights are not working, it is possible that the circuit breaker needs to be tripped. The breaker box is located just behind the lighthouse painting in your property. Find the appropriate breaks and reset them. If you need a lightbulb replaced or have any other issues related to lights, please notify the Welcome Desk.

Kitchen: We strive to equip the kitchen with most of the items you may need. If you see something that is lacking, please do not hesitate to let us know. Please let us know if something is broken so we can replace it immediately. We understand that accidents happen.

Check Out: Please check out at or before 10:00am. Please load and start the dishwasher, clean out all food and beverages in the refrigerator, and remove all trash from the property.

Emergency Information: If there is an emergency CALL 911. Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services will respond as needed. Please reference the placard displayed by the living area TV for your address and location information.

After Hours Contact Information: Our office is open from 9:00am until 6:00pm. If you need assistance after hours, that cannot be delayed until the morning, call or text us at (252) 621-5483.

RULES & REGULATIONS FOR WATERMEN’S RETREAT

Storing Trailers and Boats: Please see the Welcome Desk for instructions on where you may park motor vehicles including but not limited to RV’s, truck campers, trailers of any kind, jet skis, and watercrafts.

Smoking: Smoking is not permitted inside any of our properties. If you smoke outside of the property, you are responsible for your own trash. We ask that you do not dispose of cigarette butts in the yard, or on the property anywhere except for designated receptacles.

Alcoholic Beverages: All alcoholic beverages consumed on the property outside of the Retreat, including the parking area, picnic tables, and back deck of REAL must be purchased from Watermen’s Bar & Grill. Watermen’s Bar & Grill retains a resort liquor license, and these are the rules as stated by the state of North Carolina.

Kiteboarding: Watermen’s Retreat guests have access to the grassy launch site located on REAL’s property for the purpose of kiteboarding. No motorized boats or personal watercrafts of any kind will be allowed to use the boat basin of REAL. All guests that will be kiteboarding, foiling, winging or stand-up paddle boarding must register with the Lesson Center at REAL. After signing waivers, they will be issued a wristband that is to be prominently displayed – usually on the harness. Lessons and camps have launch priority, normally at 10am and 2pm each day. The launch site is recommended only for intermediate to advanced riders, or with the assistance of a REAL coach/yard marshal.

Linens and Towels: Bedding and bath towels should not be removed from the premises or used at the beach. We ask that guests utilize their own towels for use at the beach.

Furniture: To minimize wear and tear to both the properties and furniture, we ask that all furniture remain within each property, and not moved or re-arranged between rooms.

Other Amenities: Guests and invitees are welcome to use the facilities that are onsite at REAL. This will include the launch as stated above, as well as showers and picnic areas. Guests are also welcomed to participate in activities that are planned for guests and clients of REAL.

Prohibited Activities: Quiet hours are from 10pm – 7am. Please ensure that noise is kept at a courteous and respectful volume during quiet hours. If employees of REAL or Flying R, Inc. are invited guests, they are to vacate the property by 10pm. In no circumstance should entry doors or the elevator be propped open to allow easier access to Watermen’s Retreat.

KITEBOARDING AT REAL WATERSPORTS

We are excited to have you here to enjoy the fantastic conditions and exclusive REAL Watersports launching and landing site. If you plan on kiting during your stay with us, please check in with the REAL Lesson Center to sign a waiver and get a yard orientation prior to kiting from REAL’s property.

REAL Watersports Launching and Landing Rules:

The yard is exclusively available for use by registered Watermen’s guests, REAL lessons, and REAL employees.
Obey the flag system:

•Green flag – Open for launching and landing.

•Orange flag – High wind conditions. Each guest must get approval from the Head Coach before launching.

•Black flag – Not safe. No kiting allowed.
Launching and landing must take place in the lower yard with the kite closest to the water.
Kiters are to enter and exit the water using the designated lane of orange buoys to the South side of the property.
Follow the Yard Marshal’s instructions. They are there to help you launch and land safely.
REAL Lessons have priority. Please be courteous to coaches and students who are in lessons.
Kiters exiting the yard always have the right of way. Please do not come ashore if someone on land is launching a kite or has a kite in the air.
Do not launch a kite if another kiter is actively launching or landing their kite.
No self-launching or landing in the yard.
No hopping, jumping, boosting, or “testing” the power of your kite in the yard.
When gear is not in use, please wrap lines, stack kites and place gear next to the walkway on the East side of the property.
The main part of the yard is to be used for active rigging of kites and for lessons. The lower yard is to be kept clear for launching and landing.
Launching and landing privileges are NOT transferable. Only registered guests may use the property for launching and landing.
Privileges may be revoked at any time for disregarding the rules or any instance of unsafe behavior.
Please conduct yourself in a safe manner and know your limits. If you are unsure of your ability or have questions, please see an employee for assistance or sign up for a lesson.
REAL does not provide on-water jet ski pickups and assistance unless you’re actively taking a lesson.
