KITEBOARDING FAQ

Is it windy all the time?

Historical data shows that we average over 20 days of kiteable wind per month and 22-28 days per month in the summer (more than 16mph).

Is the launch spot busy?

Our private launch is reserved for REAL lessons and camps, and guests at Watermen's Retreat. It’s uncrowded, friendly and there is always someone to help you launch and land.

What about on the water?

The kiting opportunities from Watermen’s Retreat are limitless. The Slick, our flat water paradise, is just upwind. Numerous downwinders finish right in our backyard. The “Watermen’s Foil Garden”, featuring the perfect depth water for kite and wing foiling, is located right off our dock. This is kiteboarding perfection.

What is The Planet Run?

Eight miles of total insanity! The Planet of the Apes (or Planet Run) is the best kiteboarding downwinder in the world. Flat water slicks, land gaps, and miles of uncrowded mega loops, make this a “must do” session while kiting Cape Hatteras. There’s only one way to make it better...and that’s ending it with a cold Carolina Brewery beer at Watermen’s Bar & Grill.
